An introduction to Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is a martial art and a self-defense system that focuses on ground fighting. It promotes the principle that a smaller, weaker person can successfully defend themself against a bigger, stronger assailant by using leverage and proper technique-most notably by applying joint-locks and chokeholds to defeat the other person.
Forbidden moves include:
* No striking, punching or kicking.
* No eye gouging or hair pulling.
* No twisting or grabbing fingers.
Legal moves includes:
* Chokes (applied with arms or kimono collar)
* Arm, shoulder, wrist and ankle locks
The normal way you signal submission in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is to tap your opponent three times. When you tap, make sure you do it hard enough that your partner can feel it; or verbally tap by saying "Tap!"
The efficiency
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu came to international prominence in the martial arts community in the 1990s, when Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu expert Royce Gracie won the first, second and fourth Ultimate Fighting Championships, which at the time were single elimination martial arts tournaments. Royce fought against often much-larger opponents who were practicing other styles, including boxing, shoot-fighting, karate, judo and tae kwon do. It has since become a staple art for many MMA fighters and is largely credited for bringing widespread attention to the importance of ground fighting.
The show proposed to find an answer for sports fans to questions such as: "Can a wrestler beat a boxer?". Royce Gracie's submission skills proved the most effective in the inaugural tournament, earning him the first ever UFC tournament championship.Youtube video: Royce gracie UFC 1 BJJ
